Robodebt / Humandebt - Policy Change Recommendations

The presentation on the "2022 Robodebt Scheme" critically applies Burrell & Morgan's organizational theory, focusing on management structure and organisational hierarchy. This framework reveals how rigid hierarchies and bureaucratic inefficiencies might have led to the scheme’s failures, suggesting shifts towards more flexible and integrative management approaches for better responsiveness and accountability.

Reflecting on this analysis has deepened my understanding of how theoretical organisational models like that of Burrell & Morgan can influence real-world outcomes. This case study particularly underscores the need for adaptive, fluid and human-centric organisational structures in public administration to prevent failures and enhance efficiency and fairness in service delivery.

Personally too, this explorative study has highlighted my personal preferences to non-hierarchal, flattened and open organisational structres. In which engaging with micro-mangement, autocratic, and rigid organisational design as theory, I now understand my personal preferences within organisations; a key learning I endeavour to consider within career outcomes and job applications.
