City of Melbourne Industry Project - Sustainable City Growth
Canva Presentation
The RMIT management capstone report outlines a strategic proposal for transforming Melbourne into a sustainable "smart city" to manage its rapid urbanisation. Key to this proposal is the relocating the Port of Melbourne to Geelong, which aims to reduce urban congestion and pollution while stimulating economic growth in Geelong through the reclamation of valuable city space. This report strategically aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's) by enhancing green spaces, reducing carbon emissions, and improving public transportation. The project emphasises the importance of stakeholder engagement and cutting-edge environmental technologies, incorporating robust management strategies to navigate the complexities of this large-scale change.
Reflecting on the learning journey, this analysis has deepened my understanding of sustainable development and mega-project management theory. It underscored the intricate balance between growth and environmental stewardship, revealing how strategic infrastructural shifts can significantly enhance urban liveability. Engaging with these concepts alongside the CoM has highlighted the critical role of integrated approaches and key stakeholder involvement in successful urban transformations, providing valuable insights for future applications in urban development scenarios.
